St Joseph’s Nursery School
Welcome!
Our brand new Nursery School opened in September 2025.
We offer continuity of education to our children from ages 2-11 (Nursery – Year 6). Most children who attend the nursery continue Reception, but we welcome all children who would like to attend.
Nursery children benefit from all the facilities of the main school, including:
- Hot, home-cooked lunches
- Visits to our forest school shelter & wild welly walks
- Football, rounders and ball skills on the meadow
- Access to the school library & IT facilities
- Continuity of education into our Reception class
Why St Joseph's Nursery School?
Child-centered pedagogy
Children in the Nursery are supported by staff with experience of Early Years and Key Stage 1, so we can adapt to each child’s individual learning needs.
We have specialist staff who work across the school supporting children’s special educational needs (SEND), Speech and Language (S&L) and wider emotional development. This includes Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) and playing therapies.
The Nursery School benefits from our whole-school provision.
School integration and firm friendships
Starting school is a big deal!
At St. Joseph’s, the transition from Nursery to Reception is seamless. Children (and their parents!) stay settled as they make their important step into school life.
Moving into Reception feels natural, as the children keep close friends, teachers and support staff who know them really well, as individuals. Familiarity with the routines of the school day builds confidence and allows St Joseph’s children to start their school journey with optimism and certainty.
At St Joseph’s, friendships are not artificially limited to year groups (like larger primary schools). Children in tutor groups further up love to visit the Nursery – and are often to be found reading to the littlest members of the school during their breaktime!
Admissions and Childcare Choices
Please use the following documents to apply for a place in St Joseph’s Nursery.
The link to Childcare Choices will provide parents with the most up to date information on accessing 15 and 30 hour funding and is important in helping parents understand how to make nursery applications.
Our purpose-built early years classroom provides a bespoke learning space that is designed specifically for nursery-aged children, including separate toilet and changing facilities along with a mini kitchen area.
Children also have direct access to an outdoor learning area, shared with our EYFS & Key Stage 1 class. This includes a mud kitchen, role play areas and play equipment designed to help children balance and hold their own weight.
